Fairfield Intermediate School in Hamilton was sadly the scene of a major blaze in the Waikato on the evening of Tuesday 31st May 2011.
In their capacity as Ministry of Education appointed Emergency Contractors, Himi Whitewood of CoveKinloch Waikato and Johnny Aitken, Sub Consultant to CoveKinloch Waikato Limited were called in after initial notification by the Fire Service. CoveKinloch’s role involves notifying the MOE school property advisor and attending site as soon as possible to ensure that once the Fire service has left the site the buildings are safe & secure and weather tight.
This may involve organising the erection of temporary fencing and or posting of security. Meetings are then held with the School Principal to see gauge any requirements to ensure that the school can function as normally as possible.
Attendance the following day involved organising the initial clean up, damage assessment, report and estimated remedial cost. On occasion our involvement can run to organising temporary classrooms to be brought in until such time as all remedial works are completed. In the case of Fairfield Intermediate, fortunately this was not required.
